Incessant Energy - Reclaiming the Warrior’s Flow

The Toltec Warrior's Energy Secret
The Toltec Warrior's Energy Secret

There are certain words that arrive fully formed, as if they were always there waiting to be noticed. For me, that word recently was ‘Incessant energy’. I kept turning it over in my mind, asking myself what it really means - not as a concept, but as a lived reality. And the more I sat with it, the clearer it became that this isn’t some abstract philosophy. It is the most obvious, visible truth of existence - if we actually bother to look.

We see it everywhere in nature. We see it in animals. We should see it in ourselves. But most of us are so distracted, so perpetually befuddled, that we miss what is right in front of us. I still remember the day my own teacher looked at me and asked, “Do you notice nothing?”. From that moment on, I made it a point to notice everything - inside me and around me. And that single choice turned out to be a lifetime’s worth of training all on its own.

Here is what I have come to understand. We are vessels. From the moment we are born until the moment we die, there is an energy flowing through us - constant, unstoppable, incessant. You can feel it most vividly in children. They are absolutely overflowing with it, unrestrained and pure. But somewhere along the way, as we grow older, something shifts. The flow gets interrupted. And that is where the warrior parts ways with the average man.

The warrior does not allow that interruption to take hold. The warrior is smarter than the average man - not in terms of intellect, but in terms of awareness. The average man is subject to forces he does not see and influences he does not question. Indoctrination runs the show. Paradigms run the show. And no matter where people turn or what they do, that invisible script keeps playing out. The script says two things: ‘I don’t know, and I don’t want to know’.

The first one - genuine ignorance - is understandable. None of us can know everything. We are always discovering new things, and that is part of being human. Even the warrior lives with that. But the second one is the real trap. ‘I don’t want to know’. That is the killer. Most of us are living in that second paradigm without even realising it.

You might be the most dedicated spiritual seeker on the planet. You climb mountains, shave your head, meditate for hours, study ancient texts, do every practice under the sun. And I would still say to you - you might not actually want to know. Because wanting to know and wanting to ‘do something about it’ are two completely different things. One is action. The other is performance.

I remember hearing a story once that frustrated me for years. A young martial artist approached Bruce Lee and asked, “How can I kick faster?” Bruce looked at him and said, “Kick faster.” And walked away. When I first heard that, I thought it was the most ridiculous, unhelpful answer imaginable. It felt dismissive. It felt like a non-answer. But as my own training deepened and I began to understand the deeper layers of the Toltec way, that answer started to make perfect sense. Now I give similar answers to people, and I understand why Bruce said what he said.

Because so many of us hide behind the idea of doing something. We talk about it. We ask about it. We overthink it. We seek permission, guidance, reassurance. The fact of the matter is, if you want to kick faster, you spend time kicking faster. If you want to write, you write. If you want to change, you change. There is no secret formula. There is no hidden knowledge that will do the work for you. There is only the doing. The practice. The repetition. The uncomfortable, unglamorous act of simply getting on with it.

If you look honestly at your own life, you already know this is true. When you have really, genuinely wanted something - when the desire was real and the commitment was absolute - you made it happen. No drama. No procrastination. No endless self-questioning. You just did it. You have done it many times. And yet, somehow, the old paradigm creeps back in. ‘I don’t know how to do it & I don’t want to know how to do it.’ And we forget that that is a choice.

One of the most practical things I have learned is that the warrior is always aware of their energy reserves. Think of it like a driver preparing for a long journey. No sensible person sets out without checking the fuel gauge. They know exactly how much is in the tank. They plan accordingly. Toltec warriors do the same thing with their own energy. They develop their awareness in such practical, pragmatic ways that they are never caught off guard. They always know their capacity. They know where the leaks are and they have spent years learning how to seal those leaks.

Now, where do those leaks come from? In the Toltec system, one of the most powerful tools for unblocking energy is humour - and not just any humour. Specifically, silliness. Absolute, unapologetic, childlike silliness. In the Toltec tradition, humour is ranked second in importance only to the hunt - the hunt being the lifelong pursuit of hunting down one’s own self-importance. That is how seriously it is taken.

I live my own life in a humorous way. I surround myself with friends who laugh easily and often. We laugh constantly. And I have noticed something over the years: a genuine warrior cannot stay serious for long. They might be serious for a minute, or ten minutes, or even an hour. But they are not a serious personality as such. If you ever meet someone who claims to be a warrior and they are perpetually grim or have a heavy somber energy, watch carefully. They are either stalking - which is a whole different conversation - or they are not a warrior at all. It is that simple.

Now, I am not saying that everyone who laughs a lot is a warrior. That would be foolish. There is a tremendous amount of training behind this. But if you are looking for a clue, look for the laughter. Look for the silliness. Look for the willingness to be absurd, to be playful, to make no sense at all and enjoy it thoroughly. That is where the energy flows freely.

Think back to when you were a child. You laughed at everything. You found joy in nonsense. You had no trouble being silly. And then, somewhere along the line, you started plugging it all up. You started taking yourself too seriously. You started believing that maturity meant restraint fro free laughter, that adulthood meant suppression. But that was your choice. Whether deliberate or not. You can choose differently now.

Eventually, we all have to return to that state. We have to bring our bodies back to the place where we process incessant energy naturally, without resistance. When that happens, the energy works for us. It becomes fuel instead of frustration.

I can honestly tell you - it is rare for me to feel tired. I have long, full days. I am constantly creating, constantly engaged. But exhaustion simply does not visit me. Why? Because I have spent years understanding where the blockages are, and I have worked patiently to remove them. And I maintain habits and a lifestyle that support continuous energy flow - nutrition, physical resilience, strength, and power. It isn’t magic. It is consistency.

So I want to leave you with a question. Where are you plugging up your own incessant energy? Where are you holding back the flow that was so free when you were young? Start with something simple. Start with laughter. Can you remember the last time you laughed so hard that your sides hurt? If you can, wonderful. If you cannot, that is something worth looking at. That is a signal that somewhere, somehow, you have tightened up. You have blocked the current.

Find your way back. Find ways to belly laugh. Laugh at yourself. Laugh at life. Make it a priority, not an afterthought. You deserve to be the kind of person who inspires yourself. You deserve to be the kind of person who inspires others. Forget about titles, traditions, labels. Forget about warrior or avergae man. Just think about what kind of living this is if we cannot even laugh freely.

With that, I hope you found something useful here. If you did, share it with someone who might need it.

Walk in freedom. I will see you next time.

Farewell

Anaam.
